“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” Jeremiah 1:5. Isn’t that beautiful? Before our parents thought of us, before our grandparents thought of our parents, God knew us! He knew us and He loved us!
In this Sunday’s first reading, God is telling Jeremiah all of the wondrous plans He has for him. God had a beautiful path that He wanted Jeremiah to take in his life. And God has a similar plan for our own lives.
Every time I hear this bible passage, I am filled with such love, hope and wonder at how great our God truly is. But it also reminds me of all the babies that are killed through abortion. God had great, awesome plans for those children, but they were never given the chance to follow them.
New York just created a new law that states that pre-born babies can be aborted at nine months gestation… that means that the baby can be killed just before they are ready to be born. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” I knew you! God knew YOU! God knew each of those aborted children.
Ben Shapiro once said, “Maybe [pro-lifers] today here are not in line with the rest of society. To which I say, good. So were the abolitionists. So were the civil rights marchers. So were the martyrs in Rome and the Jews in Egypt. Righteousness doesn’t have to be popular; it just has to be righteous.”
As Catholics, it is our duty and honor to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. We can attend the “March for Life” rally in Alberta, or in Ontario. We can write letters to various public officials, but we can also pray.
Every Wednesday from 7-9 pm at Holy Family Parish, parishioners gather to pray for the unborn children around the world. If you are able, please consider joining them, whether at the church or in your own homes.
“Before I formed you… I knew you!” God is speaking to us through this passage. We have each been given the beautiful gift of life. It’s up to us to help others receive the same gift from God.
