Ah, February! The shortest month of the year! But a month that can be difficult for many of us. Some of us are letting go of our New Years Resolutions around this time, or we’re getting tired of the cold months and are praying for spring. Some of us are not looking forward to St. Valentine’s Day, while others can’t wait for it.
No matter how you are feeling this month, take note that February is Friendship Month. In general, friendships are important. None of us are meant to be fully alone. We are built for community, support, for friendship! Friendships are especially important in a Catholic context.
Jesus tells us, “for where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” (Matthew 18:20), and He sent out 72 disciples two by two. Our faith is one that we cannot live alone! We need friends to journey with us.
Catholic friends can help each of you live out our faith, perhaps by saying grace with you in public, attending Mass or confession with you, praying before road trips, or praying for you during difficult moments in your life.
On the other hand, you can also help your friends draw closer to God by doing those same things, plus so much more! Our faith is easier to live out when we have friends around us. The more Catholic friends you have, the easier it will be to keep your faith as you grow older.
If you are asking yourself where you can meet more Catholic youth, let me give you a couple ideas! One place to make new Catholic friends is SEARCH, which is a weekend long retreat for youth ages 15-20. Another place is the Holy Trinity Youth Rally on February 22nd. Please, please, please think and pray about attending! You will meet so many wonderful Catholic youth, and you will grow in your faith!
