"Holy Mary, Mother of God"

Updated: Jan 29, 2019

The Rosary, and devotion to Mary, is a big part of being Catholic. We are the only Christian denomination to pray to Mary. The Rosary is one of my favorite prayers. In medieval times, when someone wanted to petition the king, to improve the odds of having their request heard, they would speak to the king’s mother. That’s why praying the Rosary is so great. Mary brings our prayers directly to Jesus.

The Rosary is such a feel good kind of prayer, you always feel so happy after praying it. Every morning of this month my family and I are going to pray the Rosary and I would encourage you to try saying the Rosary once this month, or maybe once a week or whenever you get time, because building that relationship with God and Mary is one of the most important things to do as a young Catholic. Saint Maximilian said, “Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did.”

As one of my favorite saints, St. John Paul II, put it, “To succeed in your intentions, entrust yourselves to the Blessed Virgin Mary always, but especially in moments of difficulty and darkness. ‘From Mary we learn to surrender to God’s will in things. From Mary we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone. From Mary we learn to love Christ, her Son and the Son of God…Learn from her to be always faithful, to trust that God’s Word to you will be fulfilled, and that nothing is impossible with God.’”

You’re never too young to start praying, and praying to Mary through the Rosary is a great place to begin. One of the many reasons I love praying the Rosary is because it brings me closer to our Mother Mary. She is the Mother of our God. She gave of herself to bring Jesus into this world. She knew all the difficulties, but she did it for Him and for us. She must have had an abundance of trust and love to do a thing like that.

So I strongly encourage you to give the Rosary a try and I promise you that it won’t disappoint!
